FAQ
Questions you're probably asking yourself
Are my donations tax deductible?

Yes. The Bono Way Charitable Foundation is tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. If you are a U.S. taxpayer, Bono will issue you a receipt indicating that your contribution is fully tax deductible.

Why should I trust you?

Bono is working with the best legal and financial firms in the US so that you can rest assured that you feel comfortable giving through us.

On the finance side - we work with JPMorgan Chase as our bank, Moss Adams for Tax Advisory and Ernst & Young as our controller.

On the legal side, we’re represented by Sidley (Sidley Austin LLP), and with Adler & Colvin for our foundation’s legal needs.

On the technical and processing side, we secure and process our transactions and funds through Stripe.

All your funds are transferred directly through the Bono Way Charitable Foundation, which is  tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. If you are a U.S. taxpayer, Bono will issue you a receipt indicating that your contribution is fully tax deductible. Please see this question for details on how we vet the charities.

How will these funds be distributed?

Funds are distributed to the charities that are part of your portfolio, according to the causes which you chose to donate to.

Bono’s accounting team, overseen by top accounting firms Moss Adams and Ernst & Young, distributes the funds once a month from our Foundation’s account. In this manner, the nonprofits we work with do not have to deal with micro transactions on a daily basis.

Who am I donating and pledging support to?

You are pledging support to nonprofits that work around the causes you choose. Bono is vetting all nonprofits to ensure that they are the most impactful in their category, and that they are reporting on their impact, so that you’ll know exactly how your funds are put to use.

Is Bono a charitable organization?

The Bono Way Charitable Foundation is tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. If you are a U.S. taxpayer, the Bono Way Charitable Foundation will issue you a receipt indicating that your contribution is fully tax deductible. The Bono Way Inc is a fintech startup, a for-profit company, that provides the tech platform for the Bono Foundation, through a licensing agreement.

How can I track the impact of my donation?

You will receive a weekly personalized impact report over email that will showcase impactful actions the nonprofits in your portfolio did over the past week, and the accumulated impact of your donations over time.

Who picks the nonprofits?

We work closely with foundations, philanthropists, influencers and other professionals to suggest nonprofits. We also have our own Impact team of experts who meticulously hand-picked the nonprofits, organizations, and ad-hoc initiatives that are shown to make the most significant impact.

With hundreds of worthy initiatives out there, our dedicated team continually updates our list to ensure a diverse range of organizations benefit from Bono. Our goal is to strike a balance between supporting established, well-known nonprofits and championing smaller entities that, despite their impactful work, might not have the resources or marketing budget to gain widespread attention.

Are my details shared with the charities or with anyone else?

Your privacy is essential to us. We maintain donor anonymity for all our donations. Your details are not shared directly with the nonprofits.

Why should I choose Bono over other donation platforms?

if you’re confused about who to give to, how much to give, how you can see and follow your impact and about getting a single deductible invoice - we’re perfect for each other. If you don’t care about any of these benefits - other solutions might be better for you. We are not competing with any other nonprofit or platforms, on the contrary - we’re here to help. If you feel like you want to give to a specific nonprofit directly, go for it! We’re all here to do some good.

Is there a minimum or maximum donation limit?

Every contribution counts! We accept donations of any size, even starting with just $5 a month. Every cent makes a difference!

Currently, the maximum amount is $1000 a month; however, for even more substantial amounts, we recommend reaching out to our support for a guided donation process.

Can $5 a month make a real impact?

$5 can be worth a lot, when grouped together with others! When your $5 joins the giving pool of thousands and thousands of other Bono members, it allows even a small donation to create a large change. We are stronger when we team up, you know.

How do you make money?

For every $10 in donations, Bono keeps $1 as a service fee. This fee ensures transparency and allows us to cover all tech development and maintenance of the platform, vetting of the nonprofits, reporting of the impact and providing you with a single tax-deductible receipt. We do not charge anything from the nonprofits themselves.

It is important to mention that 100% of your donations are tax deductible and and are processed by the Bono Way Charitable Foundation which has received a 501(c)(3) tax exemption from the IRS.

This structure allows us to keep Bono donor-focused and effective.

Is the singer Bono in on this?

As much as we love Bono, he’s not part of this initiative. Our name is inspired by “Pro-Bono” - Latin for “doing good for everyone”.
